Yesterday was the official opening of the first-ever BL BLAST OFF Global Video Challenge presented by Boost Mobile.
2020 has been a weird year for us all and calling off our physical events was not easy to do. I’m so stoked we were able to use this opportunity to expand our Blast Off family globally as we already have overnight with entries in from North Carolina, South Africa, New Zealand, Lake Tahoe, Bali and across Australia.
Yesterday Jack Tyro from Kaikoura, South Island, New Zealand was the first-ever entrant into our Global Video Challenge and our Keenest Grom. Congratulations to Jack, we’ll be sending him a $300 Hurley prize pack thanks to @hurley @hurley_anz
We are stoked for you Jack! We heard from Jack’s dad that they have tried to make it to our physical event in Sydney but never got the chance. An important value of ours is inclusivity and I’m stoked that this global initiative has made BL Blast Off even more accessible. Now every grommet 14 years and under with access to internet can enter, from anywhere in the world!
Blast Off is a supportive community of frothing grommets and their families. Our events don’t focus solely on winning and losing, but rather on progressing your surfing and having a blast with family and friends. This Global Video Challenge is no different. One video submission from yesterday that totally stoked us out was a young grommet in South Africa receiving his first surfboard. The pure joy of that moment was priceless!
