Momentum was building through week 6 and we were starting to reach smaller surf communities around the globe. So we made the decision to extend the submission deadline a week to November 7th.
Week 7 did not disappoint. The videos kept on coming and the standard was the most consistently high of the entire Blast Off window.
Decisions in all categories and divisions were very hard and saw us have to break it down into divisions for 10’s, 12’s and 14’s and even then we had 6 finalists in the Boys 14s.

THE PEOPLE'S CHOICE WINNERS
With a visit to the Surf Lakes test facility in Australia up for grabs in the “People’s Choice” award, the competition was fierce. But in the end, there were three surfers who had massive support from their communities.
Only 9 points separated our top two and it was a super close man-on-man duel so we decided to give both the boys the opportunity to surf this man-made phenomenon, Surf Lakes as well as our girls winner.
Congratulations to Rickson Falcao from Brazil – 579 votes, Jorre Claeys from Belgium – 570 votes and in Ruby Stringfellow from Maui – 230 votes.

MAJOR PRIZES
Beecraft is a Sydney based building company that has been the presenting sponsor of our Sydney BL Blast Off for the last 10 years. Beecraft created a tradition of awarding our youngest participant in the event with something special and this year is no exception.
Our youngest participant, 3-year-old Wren Mitchell stoked us out in the early stages of the event with a video of her catching her very first wave!

One of the geographic-specific prizes in this year’s Video Challenge is a 12-month sponsorship from our mates at Mexicano on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, Australia. The sponsorship includes $100 worth of food from one of their incredible restaurants every month for 12-months!

This special award goes to 9-year-old Locana Cullen from Avalon. He showed some great tube riding skills and an aggressive go for it approach. The brief was to select a grom showing massive potential and Locana was just the man, we see big things ahead for this talented kid. What made his video even better is that Locana and his siblings created the original music with the didgeridoo giving it an authentic Aussie taste that we loved. Congratulations Locana and thanks again to Mexicano for the support.
